Citizen science involves members of the public collaborating with researchers in scientific research. During 2018-2021, VA was a partner in the ARCS project, which developed a Swedish portal for citizen science.
The platform medborgarforskning.se is designed to serve as a knowledge hub and a reference point for everyone who is interested in citizen science in Sweden, with the goal of helping universities and colleges to use citizen science in a responsible and sustainable way to collaborate with society. The portal offers, among other features, tools, guidelines and forums for researchers, citizens and other stakeholders who want to get involved in citizen science. There is also an interactive directory of citizen science projects currently running in Sweden.
The project was developed under the name ARCS and was a collaboration between University of Gothenburg, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University and VA.
The portal was launched on 8 December 2021 in conjunction with the conference Citizen Science in Sweden – practice and potential, held at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
About ARCS
ARCS is an acronym for “ARenas for Cooperation through citizen Science”. The project was funded by Vinnova – Sweden’s innovation agency, the University of Gothenburg, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Umeå University.
