Swedish organisation wins European Award for responsible innovation

Mistra Urban Futures, the Swedish centre for sustainable urban development, has won the first European Foundations Award for Responsible Research and Innovation (EFARRI). The Award recognises research projects that have successfully incorporated RRI practices that align research with the needs of society and actively contribute towards the development of a smart, inclusive and sustainable society.

Building bridges in science communication. Report on VA’s experiences at PCST in Turkey

Istanbul was the host city for the 14th global PCST science communication conference that took place between 26 and 28 April 2016. The conference gathered some 300 delegates from 40 countries to discuss a wide range of issues in science communication practice, training and research. This year VA (Public & Science) contributed three engaging sessions to the programme on citizen science, factors influencing public confidence in science and ways of influencing Horizon2020, respectively.

In order to solve the major societal challenges that we face, researchers, civil society, industry, the public sector and the public must work together. This type of cooperation is the foundation of Responsible Research and Innovation, RRI – a key concept in the EU’s research programme Horizon 2020. A web-based toolkit is now available to help stakeholders implement RRI.
